What is a credit card imprinter?

Conventionally used to make an impression of a customer's credit card onto a sales slip or voucher, credit card imprinter allows merchants to process transactions without the need for electronic authorization. Considering the widespread use of these devices, POS Paper brings to you the electric, manual, and portable versions of the same. To create a physical record of the transaction, our credit card imprinters have a series of rollers that transfer the raised credit card characters onto a carbon-copy slip. How does a credit card imprinter differ from a credit card reader?

While both devices are used to process credit card payments, they operate in different ways. Credit card imprinters create a physical copy of the transaction on a carbonized slip of paper by pressing the card onto it. On the other hand, portable credit card readers use electronic technology to read the data stored on the magnetic stripe or chip of the credit card. Although credit card readers have more widespread use as they provide faster and more efficient processing of payments, our credit card imprinter is certainly the most efficient backup. 

Types of credit card imprinters/machines

Flatbed Imprinters 

As the name implies, these credit card imprinters are designed with a flatbed where the credit card is placed face down on top of the carbonized paper. These are compact and widely used among other varieties. Using a sliding mechanism, the card is pressed onto the paper to create the imprint.

Portable Imprinters

How does a portable credit card imprinter work?

Alike our 4105 Addressograph Bartizan Portable Imprinter, a manual credit card machine is used to create a physical copy of a credit card. Here is the brief working of this device:-

• The user places a carbonized slip of paper onto the imprinter's base and slides the lever to the "open" position.
• They place the credit card face down on top of the slip of paper, making sure it is centered.
• They slide the lever to the "closed" position, pressing the card onto the paper to create the desired results.

The imprints will contain the credit card number, expiration date, and other relevant information. Once it is created, the merchant can process the credit card payment manually by calling the bank and verifying the card information. Portable credit card machines are small, lightweight, and easy to use, making them ideal for mobile businesses or organizations that need to process credit card payments remotely.
